Erica Heinzman

Lecturer/Supervisor of Secondary Mathematics

Erica Heinzman graduated from The Department of Education Studies, UC San Diego with a Masters in Education, a full credential in math, and a supplementary authorization in anthropology. Working in the San Diego Unified School District, she added another full credential - English, had a variety of leadership roles at her school site, including coordinating a model dual enrollment program that is now expanding district wide, started the site’s AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program to prepare first-generation and low-income students for college, and became a ceaseless advocate for students. When Kearny High School broke apart into four autonomous schools as part of an educational reform to provide a personalized education to traditionally underserved students, she joined the staff at Kearny High School of International Business. In the past decade, the small school has won a dozen regional and national honors for its work in shrinking the achievement gap.
